How do we engage with complex issues in this new world? How can we open ourselves to others’ perspectives, have thoughtful discussions with diverse audiences, and disagree respectfully with opposing viewpoints? Study ethics in the context of global citizenship and daily life to dive into these important questions. Because of this, citizenship as we know it is changing: it is expanding beyond borders and growing into something new, complicated, and exciting. Your examination of personal values and ethics will culminate in a final, sharable product that argues for or against the ethical cause selected by you!Īs modern advances and global issues tie us to one another, the world becomes bigger and borders are less clear. You’ll dig into questions, like: As individuals living in wealthy nations, do we have a responsibility to those with less wealth? Why do we have a responsibility to anyone? Who should be able to receive life-saving medical treatments and healthcare? Additionally, you will research an ethical cause that you find to be personally, socially, or scientifically significant. You will investigate topics, including: patients' rights, animals in research, environmental racism, human rights, and others. Together with your peers, you will consider complex issues in three broad areas: science & research ethics conservation ethics, and the ethics of social justice. We have become part of a vast, dynamic global network. Citizenship is going global! Our collective sense of our rights, responsibilities, priorities, and even our very identities are no longer solely rooted within a particular nation.
